Greece’s esports ecosystem took a decisive step forward with the inaugural Esports Summit Greece 2026, convening a diverse cross-section of the community, from athletes and educators to policymakers and industry leaders, for two days of purposeful dialogue and shared ambition.

Held at The Ellinikon Experience Park on the Athens Riviera, the Summit, organised by the Hellenic Esports Federation under the auspices of the Global Esports Federation, reflected a growing national momentum to shape esports not only as competition, but as a platform for education, inclusion, and innovation.

Across the Summit, conversations moved beyond theory to action. Stakeholders explored how to build structured pathways for athletes, embed esports within education systems, strengthen governance frameworks, and ensure safe, inclusive digital environments. The strong presence of young people and families underscored a clear signal: the demand for a more connected and responsible esports ecosystem in Greece is real, and rising.

A defining moment of the Summit was the announcement of Greece’s first dedicated esports arena at The Ellinikon, Europe’s largest urban regeneration project. More than a venue, the development represents long-term intent, positioning Greece as an emerging hub for esports in the region, while creating new opportunities for talent development, community engagement, and international collaboration. The arena will also serve as a strategic touchpoint for the GEF’s growing footprint across Europe.

GEF Chief Impact Officer Thanos Karagrounas joined the panel “Good Practices in Esports”, contributing to discussions on building sustainable esports ecosystems and highlighting the importance of safeguarding, digital well-being, and community-led standards. His perspective reinforced a central theme of the Summit: that the future of esports must be shaped with care, responsibility, and shared ownership.

As the conversations in Athens continue to translate into action, the Esports Summit Greece marks more than a first edition; it signals a broader shift. One where national ecosystems are not built in isolation, but through collaboration, trust, and a collective vision for what esports can become.
