Celebrating the World of Esports, Together

Greetings from Singapore and from the Global Esports Federation.

It has been an unprecedented year so far for the Global Esports Federation since our worldwide launch on December 16, 2019. In the last 10 months, we have accelerated the engagement with the global esports community, connecting the world through esports. This Saturday, October 24, 2020, we mark another first, the World Esports Day.

I wish to congratulate the leadership of the British Esports Association, Twitch, and the Singapore Esports Association for initiating this global celebration of esports. The Global Esports Federation is pleased to support the World Esports Day, which provides a platform for everything esports, competition and connecting the community together around the world – something that we express in our motto #worldconnected.

Our vision is to create a strong, safe, inclusive and healthy esports ecosystem that celebrates and inspires youth; the World Esports Day is a further platform to showcase initiatives by our community, for our whole community.

This year has proven to be challenging for so many. At the same time, we have managed to successfully establish the Global Esports Federation, with the mission of developing initiatives that are in service to the esports community – promoting the credibility, legitimacy and prestige of esports. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Member Federations, Partners and Publishers from around the world, the inspired leadership on the GEF Board and more than 80 Commission Members and colleagues who contribute their time and expertise to our mission. Together, we have achieved so much, and yet, we truly believe the best is yet to come.

Given the accessibility of online and mobile gaming, esports has proven to be the ideal platform to convene people, transcending geographical limitations in a #worldconnected through a shared passion that is esports – encouraging the community to unite and celebrate all things gaming.

From tournaments to streams, games and players themselves, and everything in-between, the World Esports Day highlights the positives of esports, from teamwork to improving reaction times, health and cognitive benefits, and the social aspects such as playing together and making friends, maybe most importantly, having fun. Esports is really for everyone.

On behalf of my colleagues on the GEF Board, best wishes for a safe and happy inaugural World Esports Day 2020.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Chan

President, Global Esports Federation
