African Esports Championships: Southern Africa Region returns in 2025

Namibia to host #AEC25 alongside AUSC Region 5 Youth Games, 8-9 July

The Global Esports Federation, in collaboration with the African Esports Development Federation (AEDF) and the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5, confirms the staging of the second edition of the African Esports Championships: Southern Africa Region. The much-anticipated event will take place in Windhoek, Namibia, from 8-9 July 2025, alongside the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games.

This year’s championships will spotlight competition in eFootball™ and Street Fighter 6. #AEC25 focuses on elite gameplay and athlete development, providing a high-impact platform for emerging talent across the region.

“The return of esports to the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games reflects our deep commitment to youth-centered innovation,” said Tomas A. Ganda Sithole, Vice President, Global Esports Federation and President, African Esports Development Federation (AEDF). “With #AEC25, we expand participation, strengthen regional collaboration, and build on the momentum of Malawi 2022—showcasing the power of esports to inspire and unite.”
